The project involved the strengthening of 6 tailings dam wall buttresses. Works included clearing and grubbing, stripping of topsoil, foundation preparation, haulage, placement and compaction of >250,000m³ waste rock material.
With a high focus on safety, BKC implemented a call up procedure for all mining trucks to allow continued use of the waste rock stockpile area during construction of the works. Due to the effectiveness in creating a safer environment, this procedure has remained in place following the completion of works.
